I think that it is tough to determine what gift to give someone. Depending on the occasion you may want to give one thing or another. I think the best gift to give someone is unexpected but still appreciated. I believe that for children you can get some type of random toy but it will most likely end up being used once and put in some cabinet. A better gift would be something like a semi-realistic sword that they can play with more often as it is unexpected and something that will actually be used. A good present for someone past a child’s age will depend on their hobbies but instead of getting someone a generic gift like a gift card or some chocolates, which sometimes are the right choice, you should get them something that aligns with their hobbies.

If I had to pick one gift that I had to give to every single person whenever I gave a gift I wouldn’t give any of the options above. Although this isn’t a very personal gift, the best gift would be an Amazon gift card. Money itself carries a different type of value and shouldn’t be given out in gifts to people but a gift card makes sense. You can also get virtually whatever you want on amazon so whatever gift the person may have wanted they will still be able to get.
